An indoor putting green is the best way to practice putting at home. They’re also a great way to get out of having to go to the range or course. With a good green, you can work on your putting game, rain or shine. This is great since it’s one of the essential elements for lowering your golf score.
While golf simulators may help analyze shot data, they’re often not as accurate when it comes to putts. The best indoor putting greens supplement these systems so you can get a full range of golf game practice.
There are many expensive green complexes, but there are also just as many affordable solutions. Regardless of your budget, you can get one that’ll suit your needs.
However, choosing one can be a complicated task since you have to think about turf quality and wrinkle resistance parameters. Luckily for you, we’re here to take out the guesswork.

Description
The Big Moss Commander Patio Series V2 is one of the best home putting greens. This makes sense as it was designed with input from PGA teaching professionals and tour players to create the most realistic at-home practice experience.
No shortcuts were taken, with this green’s most notable feature being its fantastic build quality. It’s rated to survive in the outdoors for more than a decade, so for indoor use, you can expect many years of durability. A 5 mm high-density further buoys this closed cell foam backing that provides solid long-lasting support for the turf.
We were also impressed with the quality of the turf itself. It has a stimpmeter rating of 11, so you’ll get conditions that match most municipal courses (Munys). We also found that our balls rolled true, with consistent performance and roll speed.
Also included in the package is a 3’ chipping mat extension. It’s easy to connect, and in no time at all, you’ll be practicing your pitching, chipping, and putting.
You can vary up the terrain settings with included break pads. There are hundreds of possible combinations so that you can refine your game for any conditions.
With its customization settings, turf performance, and build quality, you can’t go wrong by purchasing a Commander.
What We Like:
- Great consistent roll speed
- Top-notch build quality
- Looks much more expensive than it is
What We Don’t Like:
- Hard to keep cup ring in place

Description
Coming in at 40 ft3 of putting surface, the Tour Links 4’ x 10’ Pinehurst Premium is one of the best practice putting greens.
This hefty unit is one that features everything you need to work on your putting game. Its all-weather turf is durable and fine to leave outdoors, but it also works for indoor use. The grass rates at a stimpmeter score of 11.5 [1], so you’re getting true to course performance. We immediately noticed and appreciated how realistically our ball rolled.
You can further customize things by deciding where you want to set it up. Put it on a slope to mimic natural inclines or find a perfectly level surface for a proper golf swing; the choice is yours. You can also mix up the turf layout with Tour Links’ included contour pads.
Don’t worry about playing alone because there’s room enough for 2, so you can spend time with your friends while you both work on improving at golf. The only complaint we had was that this design isn’t very portable. It needs to be assembled initially and then reassembled every time you decide to move it. But if you want to hone your stroke inside 10’, this green is a great choice.
What We Like:
- Can mimic natural slopes
- Floating cup ensures proper turf alignment
- Enough room for 2 golfers
What We Don’t Like:
- Has to be rebuilt to move it

Description
This is the best practice putting mat that you’ll get for the price.
The big stand-out of this product is just how cheap it is. It comes in at a tiny fraction of what some of the other greens cost, and it doesn’t have any of the problems you might expect from a lower-cost product.
It’s still exceptionally well-made. It features Grade-A simulation grass so that you can get a realistic roll on your ball, and its 10’ length means you can practice from a wide variety of distances. Oddly, there’s an incline up to holes, which may mimic course conditions to some degree, which means you can only ever practice hitting it up a slope.
There’s a bit more variation in the holes, as the 2 that are included are of different sizes. This is great for refining down your putting stroke. [2]
You won’t have to worry about downtime either as this unit comes installed with an auto ball return mechanism that sends each ball back to you after you hit it, no walking back and forth necessary.
Another neat inclusion is the Ball Block Bezel. This nifty little thing prevents pushed or blocked shots and keeps the ball on its course.
This is a great putting green at an affordable price.
What We Like:
- Affordable price point
- Long length makes it perfect for practicing different ranges
- Easy set-up process
What We Don’t Like:
- Has an incline up to the holes
4. Putt-A-Bout Grassroots Par Three: Best Value Runner-Up
Product Specifications and Features
- Dimensions: 3’ x 9’
- Weight: 3.5 lbs.
- PET resin material
- Manufactured in the USA
- Non-skid backing

Description
The Putt-A-Bout Grassroots Par Three is another great cheap pick.
This example of one of the best indoor putting mats on the market is easy to set up; all you have to do is roll it out. Once set up, you’ll be treated to a 3-hole oblong set-up that is perfect for putts from any angle. You’ll also notice the sand trap cutouts put behind the holes to catch missed shots. With this, there’s no need to worry about balls rolling out into the room.
The turf is incredibly light and easy to roll up and carry around wherever you go. It also features a non-skid backing that stops it from moving around when you step on it or swing.
The green doesn’t come with a stimpmeter rating, but we would estimate that it runs about a 10.5, so it’s a little faster than your usual courses, but it’s still fairly close to real-world conditions.
We were disappointed with the build quality. It features a foam pad and turf on top, and we noticed that the green started to separate from the foam pad. It’s still usable, but it does feel a bit cheaper than some of the other putting greens out there.
This is still a good purchase, considering the price point, but we’re not sure if we’d say that it’s one of the best indoor practice putting greens.
What We Like:
- Large area to swing in
- Portable, easy-to-move design
- Add different padding underneath to change how the ball rolls
What We Don’t Like:
- Build quality is lacking
5. Big Moss Augusta V2: Best Putting Mat

- Easy setup

Description
No putting mat reviews can leave out the Big Moss Augusta V2, a product that is easily one of the best putting mats. While it’s not strictly one of the fiberbuilt golf mats available, it still offers a solid suite of features.
The most important element of a green is its turf, and this unit excels at that. It offers a ball roll experience that emulates freshly-cut bent grass putting greens, plus its built-in True-Roll down grain ensures true-to-life performance.
The turf also uses wrinkle-free technology with a rubber backed surface 28% heavier than previous models, meaning the green will lay flat, even on carpeting, and there won’t be any bubbling or bunching.
The included break snake is great for introducing some variation to the mat. By putting it underneath the green, you can introduce an infinite amount of undulations and inclines.
We also liked its wraparound backstop. Any balls that go too far bump up against it, stopping them from rolling off so that you can practice uninterrupted.
With large holes that can accomodate 8 to 10 balls at once, you can hit off several rounds before needing to reset.
Overall, this ranks as the best indoor putting mat you can buy.
What We Like:
- True Tour Roll technology ensures realistic performance
- Wraparound backstop keeps balls from rolling off
- Large holes can store lots of golf balls before resetting
What We Don’t Like:
- Surface area on the small side
6. Loowoko Wood Golf Putting Green Mat: Best Office Putting Green
Product Specifications and Features
- High-quality custom wood shell
- Dimensions: 122” x 14.5”
- Includes: 1 golf putting mat, 1 ball return system
- 1-minute assembly

Description
When you’re choosing an office putting green, aesthetics are an important consideration. You want something that looks professional and high-grade so that it can fit into the environment. The Loowoko Wood Golf Putting Green Mat satisfies these conditions with ease.
It features a high-quality wood finish that gives it a high end feel. The build quality is solid, too, as the mat and auto ball return system seem to be sturdy and built for the long haul. It’s a wonder that it’s as good as it is, especially given its relatively low price.
With the ball return, we noticed that it didn’t return the ball to us and was instead a few feet away. It’s unfortunate that this system doesn’t work as intended as it’s the only flaw to mar an otherwise great product.
Moving back to the good parts, we found the putting green turf to be rather nice. We estimate it comes in at a stimpmeter rating of 11, so you’re getting an authentic short game experience.
The package is also very portable, and easy to roll up. It can be stored in small spaces or moved around the home/office as needed.
The squaring and alignment guides [3] were another thing we liked. They’re set up at 2, 4, 6, and 8 feet, so regardless of where you’re hitting from, you can check that you’re consistently putting and properly aligned.
If you’re looking for a green for the office, you need to look no further.
This is also perfect if you’re planning to have a DIY golf simulator.
What We Like:
- High-quality, premium construction
- Portable and compact design
- Squaring and alignment guides help promote consistency
What We Don’t Like:
- Ball return won’t return ball past 4 feet
7. Fiberbuilt Putting Green: Best Fiberbuilt Putting Green

- 300,000 shot guarantee
- 1-year manufacturer warranty on mat
- Heavy-duty rubber foundation

Description
This is a golf putting green, unlike any other.
The star of the Fiberbuilt Putting Green is its proprietary Fiberbuilt Grass. It’s made from a special blend of monofilaments specifically engineered for strength and durability. It also features UV inhibitors within the low-friction nylon fibers to prevent damage from the elements.
We noticed the difference in the turf right away, particularly in how realistic it feels underfoot. These trugreen conditions make for the most accurate practice, although we were surprised to find that it comes in at a stimpmeter speed of 9, which is lower than most courses you’ll be playing. The fact that we can still get a realistic check and roll on our chips is amazing and really expands the green’s usefulness.
Fiberbuilt is so confident in its product that it guarantees it can last over 300,000 swings before beginning to show wear. From our use, it’s held up well, so we fully believe this claim.
Set-up, while not as uncomplicated as a mat, is still a breeze. It’s as easy as connecting the modular heavy-duty rubber foundation and then placing the turf on top.
This unit’s high price may deter you, but we felt it was well worth it given it’s the most realistic green we’ve seen. It also pairs well with simulator systems.
What We Like:
- Construction very suited for short shots
- Quick tool-free installation
- Realistic check and roll on chips
What We Don’t Like:
- Surprisingly low stimpmeter speed
8. Champkey SCPS Speed Control Putting Mat: Best Game Putting Mat
Product Specifications and Features
- Dimensions: 10’ x 20”
- Includes: Putting mat, wedge slope, bumpers, golf hole, roller brush, carry bag
- Adjustable speeds
- Simulated real green surface

Description
This indoor golf putting green is uniquely well-suited for playing with friends. This is because the green comes with its own set of games that can be played. We found these games spiced up our practice while also spending time with friends and loved ones.
The mat itself comes with a variety of distance and alignment markers printed right onto the turf. It’s great for evaluating your shots and correcting your posture and swing.
Another exciting feature of the Champkey SCPS Speed Control Putting Mat is its adjustable speed settings. It includes 4 stimpmeter speeds, ranging from 7.5 to 13. Depending on where you hit the mat, you can get a different experience, and it works well for practicing in differing environments.
You can further control what speed the surface is with the included roller brush. Simply comb over the grass, and you’ll be able to adjust the speed and direction of the turf.
The included edge bumpers are another fantastic inclusion. We set them up on both ends of the mat, and it completely stopped the balls from leaving the play area.
This is an excellent indoor practice putting green with a lot of unique features. We recommend it wholeheartedly.
What We Like:
- Edge bumpers keep balls in the play area
- Wedge tool for creating custom slope
- Can play with friends
What We Don’t Like:
- Movable golf hole is low quality
Conclusion
We’ve run through a lot of putting greens, and while they’re all satisfying products in their own right, the Big Moss Commander Patio Series V2 stands above the rest.
We love how durable it is with its weather-resistant finish. It’s rated for the outdoors but still works great indoors, and we’re sure you’ll love being able to play on it for decades.
It also stands out for how premium it looks. Specifically, it has an excellent build quality and a high-end appeal, with its high-density foam backing that stands in contrast to its reasonable cost.
Also included are chipping mat extensions (perfect for working on all elements of your short game) and break pads that let you vary the terrain in infinite ways.
The ball roll is consistent and lifelike, with a stimpmeter rating of 11, so your practice will translate into gains when you’re out on the real links.
Whether you’re looking for a basement putting green, an office green, or one for the outdoors, you can’t go wrong with the Commander.

Things to Consider While Buying
Artificial putting green turf is great for practicing your short game. There are many options available for putting greens, and while it can be confusing to select one, it also means that you can find the exact one to fit your needs.
How Important is it to Use a Putting Green Indoors and How Does it Help Improve Your Game?
Overall, the biggest advantage of a green is that it makes it extremely easy to practice, and as we all know, practice makes perfect. Because it’s set up in the comfort of your own home, you can get practice in without going to a range.
While you can still work on your short game by going to the course, a putting green is crucial if you want to have time to practice short shots effectively and consistently.
What are the Best Materials for Indoor Putting Greens? How Can These Affect Your Performance/Game?
Although putting greens all use turf, stimpmeter ratings can vary wildly. You want a speed rating as close to real-world conditions as possible, so your performance on the green properly translates to real-world score decreases.
Why is it Important to Look at its Portability?
You also want to think about portability. Will you be setting it up and leaving it in one space, or will you want to move it? If you like to travel often or move from indoors to outdoors on a sunny day, portability and easy set-ups are essential.
What Size of Putting Green Should You Consider?
The last consideration is size. This consists of figuring out how much room you have to choose a green with appropriate dimensions. You might also want to consider whether you want a chipping mat to practice other aspects of your short game.
If you factor in all of this, you’ll be sure to find the right putting green.
